I hear ya. I was an infrequent drinker before (almost a non-drinker) even through the college years. But I sometimes would like a glass of wine with dinner and I can't. It mixes poorly w/ my meds and it would totally put me to sleep. There are upsides though:
1. A coke at a restaurant is MUCH cheaper than booze
2. People will love you for being the designated driver
3. You say fewer embarassing things that you will regret later
4. If you "save" calories by not having a drink, you can have dessert!!
5. It pushes you to be real in (sometimes) stressful social situations. Sometimes I wish that I could just have a few drinks and hide behind a little drunkeness. But I do think that my ability to socialize has improved b/c I can't "hide" as easily. So maybe those things are a "silver lining"?
Best,
EE
