Duct Tape was believe it or not, originally called Duck tape. The story is kind of backward. Or seems that way.
I can't remember why it was called that exactly, but it's something to do with the army.. when they needed something durable and waterproof to fix helmets they nicknamed it Ducktape. Maybe because it was waterproof?
Much later when the type of tape being produced was much more sophisticated, it was actually used in air Conditioning ducts. Not the kind of tape that most people refer to as "Duct" tape, that you can buy anywhere.
There are certain standards that it has to meet to be official ductfixing "duct" tape.
But there you go.
Well That's what I was told by my uncle, and he's usually pretty accurate.
