I just got home a little while ago, and just saw this thread. I'm glad that everyone will be OK, especially your brother.
Though I disagree with many of the lesons I learned as a child, one that my father instilled in all of us was to have respect for the police, and to be thankfull of the service that they give to the communities. It's not always a safe job, and they often aren't thanked enough for what they do. Usually, it's only the bad ones who make headlines and the good ones are taken for granted.
Please let your brother know that there are people out there who appreciate him. I'm certain this was a tense situation for him, and I'm certain that he had moments of deep concern for his team-mate.
I'm glad too, for you, that everything worked out well in the end. Having a brother who is a police officer must be trying at times. I've heard that marriages with police officers are often difficult. It must be just as hard being a sibling, and even more so knowing he's in a high-risk aspect of that profession.
You'll both be in my prayers tonight.
