Ironically, someone at work just asked me “why are you here, you’re way too smart to be a receptionist.”

That is the question that no one seems to be able to answer. I get interviews, I don’t get offers.
Career counselors tell me that I interview well.
I research the company/organization. Ask questions. Send the suck up letter or email. I never hear back.

My T thinks I get over anxious and that comes out in the interview. My anxiety makes the interviewer uncomfortable.

Pdoc has given me a script for anti anxiety meds, but I haven’t had an interview to know if they will help.

I am a 48 year old female.
BA degree in Film History and Mass Communication (I know, but I really loved studying it.)
Certificate in Print and Visual Communication (desktop publishing and writing for various media)
Real Estate Salesperson License (lapsed)

I’ve been stuck for the last seven years in low paying jobs where I do nothing, but answer the phone and stare at a computer screen. I am bored out of my mind which causes my negative thought pattern to run nonstop rants of self hatred. My self confidence is zero. My self esteem is zero.

I have applied to enroll in a paralegal certificate program, but frankly figure it will just be wasted money and education as nobody will hire me. I went through that with the print and visual communication certificate and real estate sales. I absolutely don’t want to sell real estate- bad career idea for someone who personalizes rejection.

I am the queen of employment losers and it’s a title I bear with shame.
