In reply to I am sooooo triggered by the faith board......., posted by sleepygirl on March 3, 2006, at 19:26:58
I was happy to get these responses because I often feel badly about how I react to this issue.
It seems my personal reactions sometimes get in the way of a very strong intention not to disrespect anyone's beliefs in any way.I do really believe that it's all about my own personal experience in a very religious (albeit hypocritical and shame filled) environment
The evidence for this: I am less triggered by discussions of faith/spirituality to which I have had very little exposure, that is religions/spirituality I have never been made to participate in. I am therefore able to really appreciate them because of the emotional distance I am afforded.
I suppose I also react to whatever message the particular believe system communicates to me about "who I am" or how "wrong" I am, which resonates with some very old and powerful messages. It's sort of like a global? reaction to more specific and less related information (it need only have the connotation I guess, for the trigger to occur and all that energy to come back to life)
crazy stuff people....crazy
