I was in the grocery store a few days ago. I was selecting a dozen eggs to buy. Unfortunately you have to check each box before buying because quite often there are broken eggs in most boxes.
A wee older woman was beside me, looking at the cold cases. "Where are the brown eggs?" she asked, rheumy eyes squinting at the boxes arrayed before us.Oh, these are the well-behaved brown ones, I said, pointing her toward the "open yard, fed with organic feed" expensive eggs. She had her hand full with a few other items, and she was obviously hampered by her arthritic fingers, not nimble enough to deal with the buttons and edges on the foam packaging.
So I opened one for her. "Nope," I said, finding several eggs glued to their packaging," Let's look for another box." Two searches later and we had a complete box of a dozen eggs, ready for a home.
"You are a treasure, "she said to me, "just a treasure."
I only hope that I find the same assistance when I go shopping without the independence that I take for granted at the moment.
