it doesn't mean it's a bad decision, even if it wasn't your first choice. I'm sure there are good things about staying -- school for your son, work stability, friends/neighbors, familiarity and love for the area, etc.I think the idea of backing up all docs to the hard drive is good. I'd also recommend using an additional safeguard, like also saving them to high-quality discs and storing those in a separate location, and using a backup drive too -- something you could grab in a hurry. But maybe you already have all that stuff going on. Sorry if my ideas are basic.
Can you store important things like photo albums or small treasures in water-safe boxes that would be easy to grab and move in a hurry if you needed to?
Maybe staying for NOW is the right thing. You could always revisit the decision in a year or 6 months if you still feel strongly about it, right?
