Yes, but an Indian five-star hotel isn't like one of ours. It's more three-star, then you have your deluxe and your super-deluxe, which is more like our four or five-star. I can't afford even the five-star. My first few hours here were a shock but it's amazing how quickly you get used to the rabble, to being a little fish in a big pond .. it isn't difficult to assimilate, which is amazing, considering the different life we've led. But in reality humans all have the same basic needs. The slums at the airport in Mumbai (Bombay) are what shocked me. Luckily Rohinton Mistry wasn't a stranger to my reading. What he writes is absolutely true. Frightening, how disposable a human life is. That's the first thing that hit me, here. I'm as disposable as anyone. My life means nothing more than the poorest beggar's, and the process of my assimilation was a process of coming to that realization. A little fish in a big pond.
Quite frankly, it's mind-bending stuff. You know?
