I think right next to the top of the news headlines, there should be a link you can click that says [hide]. I did this, and it made the headlines disappear. I don't know if it remembers that setting when you turn the computer off and back on, though. But it worked in bouncing back and forth from My Yahoo to yahoo mail.

Good idea on the news diet.
