Spriggy is right. She is probably, because of experience, in charge administratively, anyway, of what goes on in the psychiatry department. She may also be the "boss" (reviews performance, etc.) of the other pdocs, as well as others (technicians, for example) if there are any.
That brought back a nice memory. My ex-T., a pdoc, also had the title of, "Chief, Psychiatric Services." I liked to tease him about it whenever I could. Because in the military clinic where he was then, even though there were/are psychologists and a number of social workers and technicians, the way it was structured at the time...he was the only person in "psych services!"
Heh-heh, he was Chief of himself :-)
I used to ask him how on Earth he could manage such a big (well, he is 6'6" !) department, and if the people who worked for him gave him a hard time....bad jokes, all, but he always laughed anyway...;-)
