In the past, I've volunteered at a shelter, and for political parties, and at my church. Also a few events and one time type things. I found that it really caused me a lot of anxiety, unless it was very well structured, and only the political organization was well structured. The other volunteer work I did were more or less disasters, because I'm too passive to structure my work well in an unknown situation.
I do better with administrative work, which I've also done for a few organizations, but oddly enough never consider it volunteer work. Although I didn't get paid. And they were official charitable organizations. That can also be nerve wracking in a different way.
Of course, my nerves are rather bad.
