I *know* it's a huge part of who I am, particularly on Babble. Coupled with the fact that my mother, from a very early age, molded me into someone who stood up for the picked upon kids.
I remember bringing Babble problems to my therapist and being INFURIATED with him if he suggested that I would be more help if I didn't try so hard to help. I remember crying that did he mean it was ok for no one to stand up to the bullies in middle school? Was it ok for me to be targeted and have no one say anything? That if I did nothing I was as bad as the person doing something. I would get completely hysterical, and he would back down eventually.
Funny how the things he says don't always register at the time, but may at least penetrate the skin a bit later.
Clearly I'm still conflicted about it, and what is the right thing to do.
(P.S. Sometimes the best way to help someone is to let them help you. It doesn't make you a victim, but it does perhaps make you a bit more vulnerable.)
