My new job, I mean. Today, actually, was my first day and it happened to fall on orientation day for new staff. So I sat for 7 hours and tried to absorb info about HMOs (yay) and risk-management (lift with your knees and for god's sake don't throw away alkaline batteries) and a retirement plan (that I'm too young to enroll in) and who to call when my computer goes crazy.
I did get to see my workspace though, and it's nice and big, and I have my own phone lines (2!!) and voicemail and keys for my file cabinets and the office itself. And permission to raid the office supply cabinet (which I need to do cause all I've got is a pad of mini sticky notes and 2 pens). If you can't tell, this makes me feel important in a kooky sort of way.
This may not seem like much. But for someone who 4 months ago was on the OTHER side of the desk registering for classes from the person who retired whose position I now have, well, it's sort of surreal.
Let's hope I can actually do the job.
