I shared this story with a few friends today. Thought I'd post it here. (Sorry if the letters are difficult to follow.)
D and I always try to explain things to our three-year old son, N, using appropriate terms that aren't too hard for him to follow. The other night, D was explaining why he was going to the hospital and what his test was going to be like. My sister, K, used to work at the hospital and she had called her friend to "take care of [her] brother-in-law". So D also mentioned to N that K's friends were going to take care of him and his kidneys.
When D was actually having the procedure, N asked me where his daddy was. When I said, "remember? He's at the hospital." N responded, "oh yeah. Is Auntie K sticking a noodle in Daddy's butt?" What??? "Oh...yes, N. Auntie K's *friends* are sticking a *needle* in Daddy's *back*."
N replied, "to fix his kitties?"
"Yes, N, yes. To fix his kitties." Sigh.
