I agree with anastasia. I was thinking the angle was from too low. You probably want a straight on gaze. I've had the wonderful advantage of watching constant slideshows of my old pics of me, my friends, and family on the computer I need to clear out and give to my mother, and there's nothing like a direct gaze for grabbing you from a photo.
Nothing Charles Mansonish or anything. Perhaps a semi-smiling direct gaze.
Another thought. Do you have any photos of you doing something you enjoy doing, or spending time with people you love? You can crop out the extraneous parts, but the expression on your face will probably be relaxed and natural. Give someone a digital camera, if you have one, and have them follow you around and take a million shots. When you see the one that makes you smile and want to get to know that guy, you know you've got a winner.
(My favorite one of my son is of him grinning through a edifice of blocks he was proud to have made. My favorite one of my husband is of him with his arms around my son smiling at the camera.)
