Yes, I see your point. They actually aren't ornamental gourds either, they are really eating gourds. The gourds actually made a shrieking/ whistling sound while drying. Three of the four gourds made it thru the drying-out process. Sadly, one gourd collapsed. Poor thing :)
I remember Holiday Inns from a long time ago. They have gotten nicer (and more expensive, it seems) over the years. It's funny how things change. I really miss Howard Johnson's, though. The restaurant part used to have those free cookies on top of your ice cream. Howard Johnson's loging always smelled funny to me. They didn't serve gourds, either :)

> Gourds are mostly water so an oven experience is probably a bit of a trauma. Extreme heat will blacken the outside while the mositure inside, that is trying to escape, may cause a "rattle".
