In reply to SSD mental exam, posted by almondjoy on August 24, 2004, at 12:21:54
Almond Joy,
I haven't had an exam by a Social Security mental examiner, but if I were to offer any advice, it would be to just be honest and just be yourself. The purpose of the examination is not to prove that you don't deserve benefits; rather it is to make sure that you get the benefits that you need.
During my first SSDI interview, I initially got the impression that the interviewer thought I was faking my illness, but very quickly, he was able to see that I wasn't. The doc that you will see is first of all, a doctor. His or her job is to help you. If you need the benefits you are receiving, I don't doubt that you will continue to receive them. Just be honest, just be yourself.
I wish you good luck on Monday. Please know that I'm thinking of you, and that I am hoping for the the best for you.
Dee.
