There are hastles to changing your name. They are mostly legal. Friends understand, but the largest problem I've had is with family. Parents say "But we chose that name:. Yup, and it just ain't me.
My transition is much more than just a name, but my true friends understand and love me. If someone doesn't, well that't just their tough cookies. I am me, and I can't play the part of someone else anymore. Staying in character 24/7/365 for life is much too tiring..
