Okay so my regular doc. (I don't have a therapist yet) gave me zoloft at first it was 25mg then 50mg now 100mg per day and it is really great for me. I was having a non-stop anxiety attack for like a month before I finally said "I have to do something about this" and went to the doc.Now I am only having anxiety attacks occasionally (out in public or at social events) but she wants to just put me on anothe AD instead of just giving me xanax (that's the one she mentioned to me) for the occasional attack and I think the zoloft is great (if only I could get her to understand the difference before and after, but nooo she says it's addictive and she does'nt like to prescribe it. I'm thinking geez does she think I like not being able to breathe, sweating, and shaking from head to toe, (and that's just the physical part!)
She said I need to go to therapy to see what the problem is, and I somewhat agree, however I feel like it is something that I inherited genetically.
I have not had a major emotional trauma in my life or public humiliation (to account for the social anxiety). My dad is bi-polar and so is his mom (grandmother - undiagnosed) and my mom's mom has had severe problems with generized anxiety same symptoms as me and I did'nt find out about any of it until I was diagnosed myself so it would'nt be phsycho-samatic (spelling?). I don't do any drugs or dring alcohol what so ever. So I think she is being a bit dicriminative because of my age (20) and it is a sliding scale health clinic so I thing they see alot of drug activity. Anyways any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for letting me ramble.
