You might try parroting back everything she says to you. If she says your luscious apricot color scheme reminds her of barf, you could say, "Oh, you think it looks like barf," in a neutral tone of voice. Or you could say, "Oh, I never thought of that."
Or you could say that hurts your feelings.
But it seems that things are going better anyway.
I'll try to think about it when (or if) I feel better.
