yeah; the cultural experience with higher education isn't just race-based. that's why it's great that there are scholarships for 'first-generation' college attendees, regardless of race.in some ways, i think coming from a rural area was more of a hindrance to me -- just that there's less of an understanding and sophistication about the whole process. meanwhile, upper-class families in big cities are sending their kids to 'college advisors' who help craft their applications and grease the skids. Although either way can be a problem -- being 'pushed' to an elite school because your folks went to it, as well as only knowing about the world within the state borders.
