Any Canadians Watch This Show Last Night?

Posted by IsoM on April 25, 2003, at 17:17:16

I don't think it came on in the States as it's the History channel which is a Canadian cable channel. The show wasn't what was listed in my TV schedule mag but because I love history & was tired, I flipped through a few favourite channels to see if anything was worth watching.

The show was part of a special series this week about war & this one was called
"A Child's Century of War".

I sat through parts of it with tears running down my cheeks. It's bleak & heart-breakingly sad but needs to be seen. The trouble is those who are deeply affected aren't those who have power. It will break your heart to watch it.

It covered the first refugees of this century - children displaced by the Armenian genocide in 1919 & went on from there to many conflicts where children have been affected. As warfare has become more 'sophisticated' & technology has advanced, the battle field has moved into civilian territory. It shows, too, the making of child soldiers & children as young as 7 being kidnapped & used as easily disposable soldiers. I've read much on this before so it's not new to me, but to see their faces & hear the children tell it in their own words... I can't begin to say how it affects one. I feel the tears well up, even as I type this.

It's a fairly new film so will probably be shown more & more on diff TV stations in the near future. If it comes to your area, be sure to watch it. There are no easy answers to the questions it will raise in your heart. Pull your own children closer & hold them tight for a moment. If your children are old enough to talk with, have them watch it with you.
