I went to an outpatient program, I'm sure they're all different, but I'm sure its nothing to be nervous about.
Mine was for depression. We learned some ways of coping with stress, and talked to each other a lot. The most memorable thing to me was that they only served de-caf!
I think the programs are really beneficial if for no other reason than that you can meet other people who understand. You don't have to exhaust yourself trying to explain.Is yours specific in what type of illness they treat? I went to one that wasn't specific, it lumped all mental illnesses into one group and I didn't find it useful at all, actually I found it made me feel worse.
