I hate sofa beds. They are very uncomfortable. The older they get, the worse they are to sleep on. Phil brought up a great point on moving as well. They are extremely heavy. Going upstairs with one is horrible.
My advise is to buy the sofa. If you are saving 40%, maybe a new coffee table or the matching chair.
