No, I'm not but one of our clients is a major intellectual properties law firm. Copyright law is federal legistation, not state by state, and international laws add even more fun to the subject. I can't speak to the cases you mentioned but would like to ask if they were court awards or settlements. In my business, copyrights are critically important and we've kept abreast of the changing laws. I've been on both sides of copyright lawsuits (and always won, thank heavens). The key questions are provenance and what the author did or did not do to maintain protection. There is no doubt that the internet creates a brand-new set of problems that are being worked out through the courts.
