it is shocking, but the lady speaks rationally, how ever horrible the subject, and i therefore grieve with her. she is protecting her childern from a more horrible death that she knows waits for them if she does not act. i would guess this comes froma tragedy, Shakespearean perhaps. she will kill the children only to find it was unnecessary to do so. then she will kill herself. eveybody dies in tragedies, do they not? she trys to detach herself from the situation, speaking of herself in third person.
the whole thing makes me think how unfair life is. how we seem forced to do that which horrifys us. having done the deed, the situation having past, everyone wonders how we could have done such a thing, where did free will go to? once the necessities of the situation are forgotten, it is then one takes the blame for one's actions. tearing out your hair, shredding your clothes, wallowing in ashes, the heart bursts. at least this is what people used to do. now we don't act anything out. the screams stay in our minds, reverberating in our thoughts. people no longer wail at funerals. and we wonder why depression and anxiety disorders are on the rise!
