the american cocker is, of course, a off-shoot of the british cocker. they are considered separate breeds now.
here's something i didn't know about the british cocker:
" It is believed this breed was used to flush game for hawks. In the early 19th century the name Cocker was used to describe a dog that was used on woodstock. "
they're sweet dogs, but many have problems with blindness when they get older, and also tend to get Very cranky with age.
but as usual, i imagine these are breeding problems that can be fixed, and this does not always happen at all. i've known some really sweet older cockers.
