Hi Kazoo--
In my book, surviving is a pretty impressive life achievement; and it sounds like you've managed to survive a really rotten recent past (in spite of all odds and all others)! By now, your health probably needs a major transfusion; hope you are able to get out of the line of fire and heal.
Here's what I've found re your RFI:
This is an overwhelmingly huge topic; beaucoup genetic research is going on. For the latest word on current research (on any topic), I follow the funding. The 2 biggies in this area are the NIMH and NARSAD. I don't know your level of comfort with medicalese or how much time you (or whoever) wants to spend on this topic. It doesn't come prepackaged for easy digestion because there are no definitive answers yet.NIMH's Genetic Initiative. These are the people with the big bucks. Check out description SZ database and Pubs.

http://www.mhsource.com/narsad/bd/bdindex.htmlNARSAD publications--check out Spring and Summer 2001. Profiles on Weinberger and Gershon were interesting. (discusses their research)
http://www.mhsource.com/narsad/pub/nlindex.htmlThe official APA overview of SZ (consumer language)--some info re genetics near end of statement.
http://www.psych.org/public_info/schizo.cfmAn individual's 1997 (non-profit) site listed on several SZ links lists--quite comprehensive list of resources, some (but not all) links have updated info
http://www.schizophrenia.com/research/research.htmlFinally, of course there's PubMed (Medline). A quick search of the last 2 years on this topic returned 402 hits. I scanned the first 100 and found 6-7 worth checking out. None are free full text online, though. Don't know whether you're up to hiking to UConn's med library for access. If you're interested, I can tell you exactly how to replicate my search and how to pick out the goodies.

I also can provide a brief synopsis (couple of paragraphs) of my take on the info I scanned, if you want.
