> I don't think I can read anything further by him because his writing is semi-atrocious (he claims to be a journalist from England). Anyway, I was just wondering why I'd never heard of him and if anyone else has.
He used to be a famous English goalkeeper (that's the guy who stands in the net in Soccer) turned sports presenter. Was a pretty regular sorta guy.
Then one day he shows up on Wogan (the biggest talk show here of its time), wearing a turquoise shellsuit, proclaiming himself to be the son of God.
I'm not sure he still believes that but he does believe that our world is run by 9 foot tall, blood drinking lizard men form outer space who 'wear' human skins. I am being serious.
He's generally the subject of ridicule but is becoming something of a cult hero amongst conspiracy theorists.
He's recently fallen foul of the ADL, who perceive his constant diatribes against 'international bankers' to be anti-Semitic.
I know he's v. interested in the Bildenberg (sp?) Group. If you want a fairly objective perspective on the guy I suggest "Them: Adventures with Extremists" [Jon Ronson] which has a left-wing English journalist accompanying various extremists on their travails. Icke doesn't come across as particularly nasty or anything...just rather *misguided*.
