Dear Cecilia,
I read your posts about Dr. Burns and the long thread of responses. I have had some correspondence with Dr. Burns, and I have asked him about his website. He told me he was "swamped" with work, and so he hadn't been keeping up with the Feeling Good site. He is doing some projects, books and videos, for Time Life. He said the information could still be accessed by typing in feelinggood.com, but leave off the www. It's not new material, but it can still be viewed.
I think Dr. Burns is not all that different from other psychiatrists and psychologists who prefer to use a particular form of therapy. Dr. Irvin Yalom supports existentialism and Carl Rogers believed in humanistic theory. I guess you just have to decide if what he says applies to your own situation.
I have argued with him over the use of medication for depression, but he is unmoveable. I think the drugs can be helpful and sometimes lifesaving, while Dr. Burns, as you know, does not advocate their use. He is not a friend to the drug companies, that's for sure. He is a pretty nice guy, though.
