Dinah - I agree that the therapist's request may have unnecessarily opened a can of worms and I agree that this is of course Shar's decision.
Shar - I apologize for the fact that my last post speaks about you and not to you. I was responding to Dinah's post but you should have been included in a more personal way particularly since the post that Dinah was responding to was very much directed at you.
I'm trying to see this another way and I understand Greg's point about how this request may undermine your personal promise to yourself. But unlike others, while the request may be insulting (the idiotic treatment) if it came from someone else, I think, like kiddo, that it shouldn't be viewed that way when it comes from a therapist whom you apparently like and have been working with for 10 years. i think I wrote earlier that I had been asked on numerous ocassions to make similar verbal promises, although not one for a set period like yours. The requests always made me uncomfortable and were never welcomed (infact they were annoying), but I never felt that I was being treated like an idiot or being insulted. i guess I could see that the therapist was just responding to the way I had been representing myself.
I guess I would just hope that if you decide to opt out, you don't do it because your therapist has made you angry or because you feel insulted somehow. I'm guessing that she thinks her request is very reasonable and not at all insulting or confrontational.
