I think the brain is like a miuscle... if you don't exercise it it atrophies. As we get older we are not in school anymore, so we learn less, exercising the brain less. In some way, I was lucky to be in grad school during my major depression because I was forced to continue using my brain a lot, even though it was much harder. I don't think I am back to my top shape yet, but there has certainly be an improvement since my major depression. And I think it'll continue, or at least I hope so. Take a class (a math class? why not !), exercise your brain, you could be surprised at how it can bounce back after some efforts. My 2 cents.
