"Wait!Wait!" is a weekly "news quiz" that has a rather British profile: a panel of three humorists, call in participants, and a single guest answer questions about the week's news. Guests include artist, journalist, musician, actor, etc... (Linda Werthheimer and George McGovern among them.) One of the games is a series of limericks (based on the news) that the caller must complete. Karl Kassel asks the questions (yes, even the limericks, often in character). The prize is Karl's voice on your answering machine. (!)
"Rewind" is similar--a humorous review of the week's news. And Whaddyaknow is a really random, very funny quiz show.
I think they're all on the NPR website (npr.org).
The BBC doesn't have a monopoly on smart humor!
