Barb, I’m not a big email user but maybe someone else will want to do that kind of email exchange. Good luck in finding a real life group in your area, too (or starting one, if you’re so inclined)—it seems to me that a support group would be helpful particularly for anyone feeling isolated.
Gilbert, I went to a Recovery, Inc. meeting a while back and I liked the essence of it but was a little put off by some of the terminology used to described one’s state, conditions, etc., and also by the book. They need to update their image! LOL. The people who attended were very nice, though, and I can see how it could help people who aren’t bothered by the things I was. But for me, among other things, the format was just too distracting.
I think something more generic, with a simpler format would be better for me. The best model for what I have in mind is the SOS addiction recovery groups. Unfortunately, these groups only address addiction problems and not depression. But I think the format would be good for a depression group, too.
