I battled suicidal thoughts for years and didn't always win.
When it finally occurred to me that I have much greater control over my hands and feet than over my thoughts, I decided my energy would be better spent resisting suicidal actions.
I haven't been seriously tempted by suicide since.
Knowing that I won't act on suicidal ideas has made them irrelevant, uncompelling, and far less frequent.
