Interesting, isn't it, Tabitha?
I have been in a snit over stuff my therp did and didn't do, and haven't seen her for months. But, one of the good things she said was about confronting the "800-lb. gorilla in the next room," i.e., the thing that is filling you with dread, anxiety, fear, anger... The message was, essentially, to invite the gorilla into the living room, have a cup of tea with it, and confront it. You'll see that it isn't as powerful as you thought it was, and ultimately you'll be able to suffer less because of that.
Quite the different thing from putting it in a box with a big, heavy brick on it, but I guess, essentially, it's the same thing: wrest the power from the anxiety-producing object, either way... I think the box visualization is a great idea (I had heard about it recently from someone else, their therp had suggested it, too). Naming something enough to be able to isolate it and conquer it is the basic idea, I suppose...
Beyond that, I happen to believe in "manifesting" what you want to have happen, almost like conjuring. That's why I think Wicca is an interesting religious practice, because it puts the power to change into the hands of the individual (no intermediary, like a priest or rabbi)... But that should be talked about on Faith, I guess...
Anyway, way to rock on, Tabby! Although it's never great to hear about anybody being fired, I'm sure if she was driving you crazy, she probably deserved it!
Kindest regards,Wendy
> The past couple of weeks my therapist had me do visualizations of shrinking my worries and putting them in a box. My biggest worry was a difficult coworker who pushes my buttons, so I kept visualizing not only putting this person in a box, but also putting a nice heavy brick on her to make sure she stayed in there. I also visualized her tiny voice saying "help me" as I crushed her with my imaginary brick. Well... today I learned that she got fired yesterday for poor job performance!
