because you think about the Eliiko barbell. Or any competition grade barbell. the work that goes into producing it.
it is supposed to weigh what it is supposed to weigh with a very very very very very very small margin of error.
that means that once the barbell is made they find it may come up a little over or under. so they need to fiddle about it with to get it within the weight tolerance.
the freaking barbell needs to make the weigh in.
that involves labor.
time.
and then you get some person who wants to buy one and have it as a trophy on his mantle piece. and never use it.
and you think of the work that goes into getting the knurling just right for lifting. so it is grippy enough for 6 maximum efforts in a seasoned lifters hands... but not so grippy as to take the skin off a seasoned lifters hands...
and you think about how it doesn't make any f*ck*ng difference to the guy who wants it as a work of art -- except in some very very very very very abstract way. that he should pay for.
compared to the athlete who has devoted hour upon hour upon hour apon hour upon days weeks months years of actually lifing barbells to actually lift it so as to display or show that which is of value in it...
sigh.
and you think of the labor that goes into quality controlling face masks and so on...
and so there is a very genuine sense of 'and who is asking?'
i mean... if they don't do tests properly when we send them expensive to manufacture high quality product then why send them expensive to manufacture high quality product? why not just send them cheap garbage. they can't even tell the difference.
and the people get to watering down hand sanitiser supplies. automated dispensers delivering just that little bit less, just that little bit less, just that little bit less.
driving things down to teh swampy rubbish of nothing. every f*ck*ng time.
sigh.
