So, I'm finding my feelings are difficult to put into words. The women confronting the senator in the elevator. I stopped watching the news at that time in an effort to shield myself from the inevitable--Kavanaugh's confirmation. When I finally tune in, these women are.... well, I started crying because here were two women demanding to be heard, but behind that demand, I felt they were begging to be heard, and when I interpreted that as begging, it was like a switch was flipped in me, and I felt incredibly sorry for everyone, the meek, who just ask for some sort of recognition, never mind justice.
This was separate from the #me too movement and not about bonding over shared abuse. I felt that in the middle of this big fat political show were two women who wanted their children's lives to be better.
The older women said to the effect that the candidate could not face anything about his past life, for instance his drinking. He lied about drinking (this is separate from abuse allegations), and by this refusal, he was not capable of bringing justice to the country. Justice is about uniting people and healing harm and she felt (and I agree) hi is not capable of that.
Does this make more sense? I feel like I just wrote a bunch. Hard to write about. Have you ever experienced an event that trigged more than the event itself warranted? Idk.
