I think she apologized *if* her being a member turns out to be connected, *if* it turns out to be arson, which is (strongly?) suspected at this point. At least that's the way I understand her quotes when I read them.
I think it could say she's a friend to her fellow church goers, and a mom (there were children in the church building at the time) and that she feels for the people who were in danger. And maybe also that although she can't be responsible for actions others may take, she feels badly her membership there *may* have triggered something violent and dangerous?
Taking responsibility for possible unintended consequences of her candidacy?
