Interesting article, but it's real hard to make valid comparisons. Extreme violence has occurred lately between tribal groups in Africa, in Bali in the mid-sixties; thousands have died in India over religious disputes...history is full of examples.
Some areas may be worse than others in the short term, but in the big scheme violence seems to be in all of us.
