Dr. Hsuing now signs his posts with an opinion from a New York Times columnist, which was published in a column that falsely stated Dr. Hsuing wrote MattsBBS, the software that runs this Web forum.
Dr. Hsuing has stated previously and extensively that his role in this forum is not to provide support or education, but to serve an administrative role. My questions are:
* how does advertising ones' self as a "brilliant and reticent mastermind" serve an administrative role in this forum?
* does promoting the administrator as a "brilliant mastermind" serve more to support users by giving them a sense of confidence than it contributes to any administrative purpose.
* does promoting ones self as "brilliant...mastermind" serve other purposes, such as advancing one's professional reputation among ones peers, moreso than providing support and education, or administering mutual support and education among group members.
* what are the ethical implications of promoting ones self as a "brilliant mastermind" in a technological milieu when the claim is based on an eroneous representation of a person's accomplishments, at the expense of technologist who freely donated their technical acumen to anyone who might care to use it?
