Dr. Bob,
I don't think that "Dark Social" is a good idea. If, over many weeks or months, a poster persists with threats of suicide and repeatedly ignores suggestions, pleas, and exhortations for her to seek appropriate professional help, then what do you suggest? Psychobabble is not a therapy board, and, more important, Psychobabble is not a substitute for psychiatric treatment. The vast majority of posters here are not trained in psychiatry, psychology or social work, and for those who are trained (or are being trained), it would be misguided, unethical and probably illegal for them to practice therapy -- or play therapist -- on this board.
There have been several instances over the past few years when I thought it would be a good idea for you to prohibit certain people from posting here unless they agree to be in intensive psychiatric treatment simultaneously. It is clear that some people don't get better here. It is also apparent that some people get worse. Others just don't seem to understand what this board is about, even when they have been reminded over and over and over again. And I get the feeling that there are a couple of others that probably do know what this board is about, but they seem to get something out of repeatedly testing the limits and toying with others' vulnerabilities.
I would also like to suggest another Psychobabble board or link that would connect Babblers to Internet links and further information about the highest rated hospitals and doctors in their region. For example, if a poster lives in a certain state or province and is not availing herself of the quality of care or the frequency of care that she requires, then she could be directed to links for the best doctors and hospitals in that part of the country. What do you think?
