It's true that the word "I" prefaced the rest of the sentence, but the rest of the sentence went on to say something about others' behavior.
Perhaps pax could have said "I am troubled by ..." That leaves the reaction to the behavior in pax's self and does not include an overt assessment of the others' behavior.

Opinions are tricky. You might not feel put down, but someone else might. Now if someone posted "I think GG is a geek", I would not feel put down, because I AM a geek. :) But if someone posted that even as their opinion of me, it could be viewed as unflattering.
