Actually, a snob is someone who flaunts his social superiority or whose condescension of his inferiors comes from social or intellectual pretension. KidA is far from pretentious, and I have it on good authority that he rarely holds his pinky out when taking tea.
It shouldn't be too much to expect that a person have a good grasp of his native tongue. (What is too much to expect, however, is that he grasp his native tongue and hold it.)
Maybe elitist is a better word.
