hi. i am taking 20mgs/abilify daily. this lady is new, so i was asking about reducing the abilify. my question was: "how low can you go?" and she says "I dunno...5mgs, maybe all the way off...," which on the one hand is fabulous news (I guess?), because then I should have a lower TD risk and if I can get off a neuroleptic then...awesome. however...
I think it raises questions about diagnosis and who decides what, exactly, a given individual's "problems" = in DSM/ICD -speak.
I don't know what to do, really. Long term, I think I might be better off -not- taking a neuroleptic, at least not daily. My diagnosis ranges from "Schizoaffective, manic type" (which was once "good outcome Schizophrenia," back in the day) to "Bipolar I, prone to psychosis" which...?
What kind of got to me was the talk of mania. "Oh, you have obsessive traits. well, you know, we can't really give you an antidepressant...you might go manic...," which...might turn out to be a good maneuver, long term (AD drugs do seem to somehow cause more erratic moods, plus apathy...wellbutrin didn't, but it also wouldn't have worked without the Abilify on board...), but...again: who is doing the diagnosing, here? Based on...what info?
so there you go. I don't really want to try a switch to Latuda, honestly. I think I'd be better off just seeing about going as low as I can, as slowly as possible, on the Abilify...and maybe I'll be tranq-free in a year or so (?).
