Buprenorphine trial - dose and risk of withdrawal?

Posted by Uncouth on September 17, 2015, at 11:33:00

Hi,

I'm planning on trying low dose buprenorphine for my refractory bipolar depression, anhedonia, and amotivation.

I've gotten ahold of 0.2mg buprenorphine. I have never been addicted to any opiates, and have only taken hydrocodone after surgery. I'm interested in bupe due to its kappa opioid antagonistic effects, but concerned that even such a low dose and short term trial might cause severe withdrawal.

Does anyone have experience trying bupe at such a low dose, and know whether even a brief trial without dose escalation would mean I end up hooked? I'm thinking 0.2mg 2-3x a day, which seems to be what people using bupe for depression start at.

Thanks,
Uncouth
