I wouldn't count 6 months as being short term.

taking dopaminergic meds over about 6 weeks is all it took for me to completely lose my hedonic capacity.
I also no longer respond to any meds.

though, the only thing that ever came close to giving me back my normal brain function was Periactin.

it seemed to be great for getting my dopamine system up and running again. though it eventually stopped working.
my sense of wellbeing, joy and motivation all came back while I was taking it.
