Side Effects - Help

I have become absolutely terrified about side effects from medication. When I was younger I would take about any pill (prescripted), but now I don't know how I would get started with Concerta or Abilify as augmentors. I seem to focus on s/e and not on potential benefits.
This is a major drawback of knowing too much about pharmacology. With Abilify I'm certain that I would end up with either TD or NMS or both. Are my fears justified? I have combining conventional ADs back and forth for years but they don't carry the same risks.
