The really bizzare thing is that the more "me-tooish", the more marketing that is needed, the higher the drug price has to be to pay for that marketing, etc. Any company introducing a really effective AD, for example, that was basically free of side effects, wouldn't have to put a $50 ad in the New Zealand Times to have people demanding to have it available.
It will be interesting to see how far the Wal-Mart $4/month for any generic on their list (there are no psychoactive drugs on the list yet)
will go. Generic drugs are dirt cheap for pharmacies to buy and look at the huge savings it would represent. Wal-Mart is making a profit on those $4/month prescriptions. They could put Medicare part? out of business if people could basically get any generic drug at that price. Interesting. The robber barons of the US, Opus 2,367.
