Definitely, and it's normally very good at doing that. My family is just hypersensitive to so many medications, especially painkillers that aren't purely opioidergic (that a word? lol) in their mechanism of action (i.e. acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etodolac, toradol, tramadol). My mother tried tramadol just once one night for her fibromyalgia pain and was incapacitated for the whole next day. And a single dose of etodolac (generic form of a prescription NSAID, Lodine) gave her a severe, though not acute, anaphylactic reaction. After five days of swollen ankles and wrists, odd bumps and rashes on her arms and knuckles, and terribly increased pain she decided to hit the E.R. and was luckily enough able to beat the symptoms with a two-week course of prednisone.
